Key dates
- April 30, 2027: file your 2026 return and pay any balance owing
- June 15, 2027: filing deadline if you or your spouse are self-employed (payment still due April 30)
- March 1, 2027: last day for RRSP contributions that reduce your 2026 tax
Why it matters
- Benefits keep coming: the Canada Child Benefit, GST/HST credit and Ontario Trillium Benefit are only paid when your return is filed, even with no income.
- No late penalty: filing late with a balance owing costs 5% of the balance plus 1% for each full month, up to 12 months.
- Your RRSP room and refunds are calculated on time, and the CRA has an up-to-date record if you apply for a mortgage, immigration or the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
